ENSAPC’s YGREC gallery is closed during school vacations.

YGREC, an exhibition space acquired by ENSAPC in 2012, is located on Rue Louise Weiss in Paris’s 13th arrondissement. The new site replaces the former La Vitrine space on Rue Moret in the 11th arrondissement. YGREC’s current expansion to Les Grands Voisins (an urban laboratory described below) reflects the school’s commitment to artistic sharing and exchange in a space open to all that is part of a vibrant city project.

As ENSAPC’s platform in Paris, YGREC is a site for encounters and experiments, a space for research and interaction between center and periphery where education, research, and professional development cross paths and nurture one another.

Adopting the modes of inquiry and deliberation of a center of art, YGREC stands as a third way of questioning and reinventing the practice of art and its transmission in tandem with other domains and practices.

A center for production and dissemination, YGREC supports the emergence of creativity by crossing disciplinary boundaries and promoting the plurality of forms. It is also a space for collaborative projects that can be adapted as a function of the needs of those projects: exhibitions, performances, seminars, concerts, screenings, meetings, debates, and so on.

YGREC’s annual programming follows four axes:
– encouraging emerging creativity by mounting the works of French and international artists in group and solo shows;
– contributing to the research projects carried out by ENSAPC and its partners;
– promoting international cooperation by participating in ENSAPC’s partnerships with foreign art schools and universities;
– promoting the work of ENSAPC students and the careers of its graduates and alumni.

YGREC is a member of the TRAM network.

LES GRANDS VOISINS

Until its decommissioning in 2010–11, Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Hospital, situated between Port-Royal and Denfert-Rochereau in Paris’s 14the arrondissement, was one of the largest maternity hospitals in Paris.

In 2012, the public assistance office of Hôpitaux de Paris leased the site to Aurore, a nonprofit association specializing in emergency housing and other assistance to vulnerable people. The entire site is being acquired by the city of Paris for development into a new neighborhood comprising 600 units of housing. During the present transitional phase, the challenge is to put this extraordinary site to bold, exciting, constructive, and socially conscious uses.

Since 2015, the Urban Plateau Association has been assisting Aurore to coordinate use of the site and to support the groups and activities included in their settlement plans. The Yes We Camp team is on site to encourage interactions and cooperation among residents of the site  while ensuring that it remains an open, welcoming public space.

Today, a thousand people live and work in the former hospital. The mixed use—combining housing for vulnerable people with offices and exhibition space for cultural and community organizations and associations—make Les Grands Voisins an urban laboratory of unprecedented scale.
